What's the difference? I always get asked the question of "why should we choose your studio over all the others?" So here's some comments/reasons/thoughts I've come up with after communicating with other photographers over the internet photography forums on how to run a photography business. Just a different way of doing things. The Secret of our success=Nobody does senior portraits like we do. |

Go to a photography convention and copy what the speaker tells you do so your pictures will look like everyone else's. Since the amount of our customers is dropping, try to get as much money as possible out of each one. Tell them what kind of poses and settings they will get for their portraits. Photoshop all the pictures before the customer sees them so they will look good. Higher a web designer and marketing professional to do expensive advertising. Don't put prices on the web site because that might chase them away. Make the customer come in for a time consuming sales session. Don't offer photo CDs because then people can easily copy your work instead of paying full price. If a customer has a photo CD their prints will come out bad and everyone will thing you're a bad photographer. Raise your prices, that way you can make more money on lesser amount of customers coming in. Make lots and lots of different packages for people to be confused with. Different finishes, mounting, pricing. Offer specials on the session fees to get them in the door and then try to get them to spend the amount of money that we want them to. |

Go to a photography convention to see what everybody else is doing, and then do things completely different. Go outside of photo conventions to get idea. Since the amount of customers is on the increase keep giving them an excellent value for their money. Ask each individual what style they want and help them get it. Take good pictures to start with and then show them the results right after their session. Do inexpensive advertising and rely on repeat customers and referrals from satisfied customers. Don't play games and waste the customer's time, put the price list on the web site and save everyone's time. Make it easy for them to order what they want, over the internet on their own time or stop by the studio. People have been copying my work for over 20 years, let's make it easier and offer a photo CD. Offer a CD because many students take digital imaging classes and can make great prints. Since we stay really busy and Lab print prices are lower than they use to be, let's lower our prices. Let's make it easy, how about 2 different easy packages that 90% of the customers can choose from and get what they want. Let the customer decide what they want, get the money up front and then just take pictures and have fun instead of worrying about how much they will spend later on. |
